Gutter's getting widespread visibility on the courts of The Basketball Tournament, on billboards in Times Square, and now on the airwaves of the Overpriced JPEGs podcast!
The Gutter Cat Gang's Co-Founder, Gutter Dan, joined host Carly Preilly (@carlypreilly) and Open Sea's Partnerships' lead, Alexander Bercow (@0xAlexander) to breakdown the recent GutterMelo kicks drop. `
"Checkout @gutterdan_, @0xAlexander, and @carlypreilly chop it up on @overpricedjpegs about the Gutter Melo drop! Gang Gang," the Gutter Cat Gang tweeted recently.
During the interview, which lasted just over 15 minutes and can be watch on YouTube here, Carly highlighted that the recent GutterMelo drop received, "the highest % of mints coming from fiat payments that OpenSea has ever had," which suggests that a lot of people outside of the web3 space participated in the drop.
When asked about the partnership with PUMA, OpenSea, and LaMelo Ball, Dan indicated, "It was electric. The stars aligned."
He said, "We'd worked with PUMA for a while, and LaMelo was the first major athlete to join the Gutter, just 5 days after mint in June, 2021." As the Gutter Cat Times previously reported, LaMelo Ball also wore custom GCG sneakers during an NBA game last year.
Dan added, "We explored a lot of options for the drop, and originally thought we'd host it on our own. After we spoke with Alex and the OpenSea team, we knew they could help us achieve our goals of max visibility and user experience."
Alex explained, "This is a new product for OpenSea. We believe in redeemables and wanted to build a page that looked like more traditional e-commerce. We needed a great partner like the Gutter Cat Gang, with a great community, an athlete like LaMelo, and brand like PUMA."
He said that OpenSea's protocol enabled customers to choose sizes, which is fairly difficult to do. However, OpenSea is looking to build for a large audience, and plans to do more experiences and drops like this.
Carly asked about the nature of digital-physical items and 'why' do drops in this way. Dan said, "It's sort of a Trojan Horse analogy. It's an efficient way to onboard newcomers. We love what Luca did with Pudgy Penguins....We considered it going into the drop." Dan thinks we'll see more tokenized assets tied to NFTs as the next evolution of the space.
Gutter's digi-physi drop is a big accomplishment for the Gutter brand and industry. The shoes are available to buy and redeem through the GCG's link: https://guttercatgang.com/, or on OpenSea: https://opensea.io/collection/guttermelo.
Shoes can be redeemed until August 20th at 3PM ET, so be sure to grab those kicks, Gang!
