The Gutter is known for its gritty aesthetic and the group of rebels and underdogs who support it.
Gutter Cat Gang member irina liakh (@IrinaLiakh) is taking that Gutter ethos and her Gutter baseball hat to the streetz of Ukraine, delivering aid to civilians, medics, and gutter dogs.
In mid-July she tweeted, "Day1 in Ukraine, super jet-lagged, but the work began right away. spent today with the guys who are rebuilding cars to make them bulletproof & usable for medical/casualty evacuation. hope weâll be able to get some cars done & deliver to the medics. http://crystalhearts.io." In one of the photos, Irina rocks her GCG baseball hat.
The Gutter Cat Times reached out to Irina, who's still in Ukraine now, to find out more about how she got into the Gang, what she's experiencing on the streetz, and how GCG community can get involved.
She said, "I picked up my first cat as a gift for myself for my birthday, which was 2 days after GCG minted. After that, I started searching for a perfect cat that could be my pfp, and 10 days later I found it. Since then, my pfp has never changed, and I've picked up 2 more cats along the way!"
She's been involved since the beginning of the war, when she helped to evacuate her family. Initially, she volunteered at the border and train stations in Hungary and Poland, and then started working more actively to provide aid to civilians and military.
Irina told the Gutter Cat Times, "I mainly work directly with my hometown volunteer center and several trusted volunteer groups on the ground. I also travel to Ukraine to deliver aid personally and drive the frontline areas to support military and civilians in the liberated villages and frontline villages near active combat zones."
She added, "I'm supporting by delivering items requested on the frontlines by men and women in the Armed Forces of Ukraine: bulletproof vests, first aid kits, generators - anything that can help combat medics. Plus, food and other necessities."
"I'm also helping animals. I assist with funding the local volunteer groups who are risking their lives to save animals. We evacuated animals from the frontline areas during the current trip."
Earlier this month, Irina tweeted that she and a friend were able to evacuate several dogs. Check out the pictures and her tweet below.
Irina is also supporting civilians in the frontline areas, delivering food, water, and hygiene packages.
She shared, "Many people live under constant shelling. The village we went to 2 weeks ago was bombed the night before we got there." The picture below shows Irina with civilians who received her support.
Irina and others are grateful for the support already received. And, "We still need help and support," she explained, "appreciate it - Gang Gang!"
